The editorial team of the Academy of Management Review (AMR), the leading academic journal in business administration, came to Rotterdam in January for their annual editorial meeting, as well as for a paper development workshop for international scholars. The workshop, organised in collaboration with AMR’s Organisation and Management Theory (OMT) Division and Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), focused on developing the theoretical contribution of theory and empirical papers, and had editors and senior scholars provide detailed and developmental feedback on participants' papers.

Over 50 researchers, most at the start of their academic career and from institutions from across Europe, participated in the event organised by Joep Cornelissen, Professor of Corporate Communication and Management at RSM. Participants received feedback on their papers and got to know a lot more about AMR and its developmental ethos. Belle Ragins, the Editor in Chief of AMR, opened the day by asking participants to reflect on theoretical contributions from an author's and reader's perspective, before the group took part in paper development sessions led by associate editors of AMR and senior OMT scholars.

The group reconvened for a session on developmental reviewing that was also open to RSM faculty and PhD students. Belle and the AMR team highlighted the importance of developmental reviewing for authors and for the field, and discussed specific steps that AMR is taking to make the journal the “gold standard” for developmental reviews.

All of the sessions were well received, and the participants went home with suggestions in relation to their papers as well as with a better sense about the role and importance of developmental reviewing.
