The venue, Rotterdam Science Tower will become a hot spot for decision-makers and influencers from the private sector, government and public bodies, educational institutions, research institutes and start-ups, as well as investors, independent contractors and students with an interest in innovation. The Rotterdam Science Tower is home to the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, a joint initiative between Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and Erasmus School of Economics.
The programme for the Getting Smart Congress includes a plenary session moderated by former Dutch Prime Minister Professor Dr Jan Peter Balkenende, followed by a series of break-out sessions in which scientists, strategists, visionaries, innovators and start-ups will be presenting a broad range of innovative initiatives and ideas. Innovation Monitor
Henk Volberda, Professor of Strategic Management and Business Policy at RSM will announce the latest annual Erasmus Innovation Monitor report, which launches on 19 November. His report will be followed by the presentation of the Erasmus Innovation Award to the most innovative Dutch business, according to the award’s jury.
Economy and employment
Frank van Oort, Professor of Urban and Regional Economics at Erasmus School of Economics and Academic Director of the Institute of Housing and Urban Development Studies will present a recently published report on the consequences of the present transition for the economy and the employment market. The presentation will be followed by a plenary debate between Metropolitan Region Rotterdam The Hague (MRDH), the Drechtsteden alliance, and Municipality of Leiden, moderated by Jan Peter Balkenende.
Road Map Next Economy
A presentation from Agenda Stad, organised in partnership with the Dutch Ministry of the Interior, is followed by the presentation of the Road Map Next Economy MRDH in collaboration with Hans Beekman from the Municipality of Rotterdam.
‘Getting Smart’ break-out sessions
Break-out sessions will ask participants to think about the transition to the ‘next economy’, focusing on adding the ‘smart’ element to industry, data, security, education, economy, technology and buildings. Sessions will be hosted by, among others, Adobe, CGI, Agenda Stad, the Erasmus Innovation Monitor, The Hague Security Delta, Drechtsteden, Leiden, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Da Vinci College, Koninklijke Metaalunie, Uneto VNI and OTIB.
