RSM’s MBA graduates pursue careers in a broad diversity of regions, sectors, and roles while contributing to a positive change. The career event helped them on their way to reassess career strengths, address areas for impact and redefine their career roadmap for the remainder of the MBA. It covered reflection, opportunities to practise and gain feedback, and closed with the opportunity to engage with the market in speed interviews.
“Amazing energy, enthusiasm and engagement”
“We’re entering the start of the recruitment season, that’s why it’s important for students to reassess career strengths, address areas for impact and redefine their career roadmap for the remainder of the MBA,” says Meghan MacKinnon-Kraaijeveld, RSM Career Development Manager, adding that the 70 students who attended brought “amazing energy, enthusiasm and engagement.”
The career event was organised by the RSM MBA Career Centre for the MBA Class of 2024. The Centre guides students to find and pursue an impactful career. It helps MBA candidates to deepen their self-awareness, explore the market, develop their networks, and upgrade their interview and job search skills. During the MBA Career Days, sessions and workshops were provided by MBA career coaches, external experts and in collaboration with MBA student associations. There were also sessions from the Technology and Innovation Club and the Leadership & Diversity Club about careers in technology and about HR tests, panel interviews and best practices.
Sustainable career planning
Day 1 started with a colour training session, in which students learned and experienced how to engage effectively and develop strategies to connect with different types of people through storytelling and various communication styles. This was followed by a workshop by executive coach Sandro da Silva about sustainable career planning with exercises around goal-setting and impact.
The second day covered the art of storytelling in the form of interviewing skill drills. Students received constructive feedback that will enable them to further sharpen their delivery and communication style.
Interview marathon
The third day kicked off with a session about salary negotiations, led by Professor Giuseppe Conti.
Finally, the MBA students could put their new skills into practice in an interview marathon with recruiters and alumni. They received feedback from 12 experienced interview professionals after 10-minute practice interviews. The career event concluded with closing drinks at Maria’s Cantina on campus.
