EUR’s participation as a lead partner in EIT’s project ‘Culture & Creativity’ comes as a result of a widespread effort and collaboration between academic staff from several faculties including RSM’s Daan Stam, Professor of Innovation Management, and Associate Professor Dr Dirk Deichmann, both from the department of Technology and Operations Management.
Driver of prosperity
The new EIT Culture & Creativity project will start operations in 2023 with the mission of boosting the competitiveness of cultural and creative sectors and industries, and strengthening their role as drivers of prosperity for Europe. It will receive over € 150 million support from the EIT over two seven-year periods before becoming self-sustaining.
Cultural and creative sectors and industries are key drivers of economic growth and job creation across Europe. They account for 5.5 per cent of the EU's total GDP and 6.2 percent of Europe's workforce. The majority of them – 80 per cent of the 2.9 million companies in this sector – are small and micro enterprises, but represent European diversity as well as its unity.
Others taking part in EIT Culture and Creativity are:
- from the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication: Dean Martine van Selm; Christian Handke (academic coordinator); Pauwke Berkers; Erik Hitters; Ellen Loots; Mariangela Lavanga; and Paul van de Laar;
- Professional Services colleagues from Erasmus Research Services: Meri Georgievska-van de Laar; Adrian Sneeuw; and Bastiaan van der Zeeuw;
- from EUR’s Academic Affairs: Rene Teunissen.
