Pension funds, insurers and governments should intervene in the struggle for Akzo Nobel and Unilever, argues Henk Volberda. Keep them in the Netherlands. In 2009 I co-wrote a report on the mobility of corporate headquarters in the Netherlands on behalf of VNO-NCW, Akzo Nobel, Shell, DSM, Unilever and Philips. Result was that corporate headquarters have a high added value for the Netherlands and were pretty sedentary, but 44 percent considered moving one or more components abroad. A scenario in which all corporate headquarters would leave our country, seemed unlikely.
