Most volunteers in the Netherlands volunteer for reasons of making one's self useful to society, however, volunteers don't want to spend too much time on volunteer pursuits and, in addition, want to be able to gain personal benefits from the activity. This describes the "new volunteer working style" and, as Lucas Meijs explains, this working style is also reflected in both paid and volunteer work.
