The Erasmus Horticulture and Food Centre connects academics, entrepreneurs and social organisations to jointly develop and disseminate new knowledge and innovations, and contributes to strengthening the leading position of the Netherlands in horticulture and food production.

The Dutch Horticulture sector is world-leading in greenhouse construction and exploitation, and in advanced growing techniques. The centre of this sector is located in the Westland cluster between the Hague, the North Sea and Rotterdam. It contains more than half of the land used for greenhouses in the Netherlands.

This agro-industrial district also has very successful greenhouse manufacturers and builders alongside the growers using greenhouses for vegetables, flowers and plants. Westland is also home to the world famous flower auction and its associated international trading houses, logistics companies and all kinds of service providers and suppliers to Dutch and international growers.

We work closely with researchers from the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability to bundle our knowledge and work on topics such as circular horticulture, sustainable value chains, scenario analysis, and AI for sustainable greenhouse horticulture.
