Bachelor graduates celebrated the completion of their studies at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). The graduation ceremonies for RSM’s two bachelor programmes took place in the Nieuwe Luxor Theater in Rotterdam in November 2021, and were livestreamed for family, friends and graduates.

The 417 graduates from RSM’s Dutch-taught BSc Bedrijfskunde (Business Administration) received their diplomas on 11 November 2021.

“You’ve earned a diploma that’s more than a piece of paper. It shows that you have solid broad knowledge of the entire business administration field. You’re ready to hit the business world with a mission to be a force for positive change,” said keynote speaker Professor Michel Lander to the graduates.

The dean of education said their RSM studies offer graduates the opportunity to make an impact in their work environment and in society. “RSM graduates are well-paid and are known in the business works as go-getters, doers who make things happen. You are the future of the business landscape in the Netherlands and beyond.”

Walk the talk

The 342 graduates from RSM’s English-taught BSc International Business Administration (IBA) received their diplomas the next day, on Friday 12 November 2021.

“Your achievement and new knowledge are a solid foundation for whatever career you may pursue,” said Adri Meijdam, executive director of RSM’s bachelor programmes, in his speech to the graduates.

He said that business can and should play a key role in addressing and solving challenges like global warming, sustainability, justice, exploration of resources, and child labour. “You, as RSM graduates, are the much-needed agents for positive change. You have got to address these grand challenges, for example by developing new business models that do well and do good at the same time, by challenging the status quo, and by being a source of inspiration to others.”

Meijdam added that the art lies in walking the talk. As an example, he mentioned the I Do project, in which students work with NGOs to offer local help in developing countries, applying their business knowledge obtained so far.

“These kind of activities make me happy, and I am very proud that this initiative was born with you, our students. We’re happy to give this initiative a formal place in the curriculum. As future decision-makers and leaders, you will be in the vantage position to make a positive change in the world.”

Many BSc graduates from both bachelor programmes have continued their studies in one of RSM’s specialised master programmes. Others have chosen other studies or have found employment in the business world. All of them are now members of RSM’s extensive alumni network of more than 40,000 RSM graduates worldwide.
