It was the first time this prize was awarded. Human Factors NL, the Dutch society for ergonomics and human factors, introduced the award to acknowledge excellent contributions in the field of human factors and ergonomics. Prof. Jan Dul received the award for his entire oeuvre.
Connecting with management
Prof. Dul’s work has influenced human factors and ergonomics internationally and in the Netherlands, including the establishment of Human Factors NL, which was a merger of three ergonomics societies. Dul is currently working on connecting human factors and ergonomics with management.
“I’m very honoured to be the first to receive this award,” says Prof. Dul, who has received several international awards for his work in human factors and ergonomics. “This recognition from my home country and a professional society I helped set up is very special to me.”
Ergonomics strategy
Johan Molenbroek, the chair of the jury who handed the award to Jan Dul, mentioned several highlights in Dul’s career that has had an impact on the human factors and ergonomics field. Molenbroek highlighted Dul’s book Ergonomics for Beginners, as well as his work for the International Ergonomics Association, in particular as chair of the Future of Ergonomics committee, where Dul developed a new strategy for the discipline and profession.
Organisational performance
Prof. Jan Dul, who is part of RSM’s Department of Technology and Operations Management, says he has gained a lot from ergonomics in the Netherlands and from the Dutch ergonomics society, both professionally and personally. “I’m glad that I could give back, and that my vision about the central role of human factors and ergonomics in combining human well-being in organisational performance is now broadly accepted.”
