What are the pros and cons of top-down decision-making versus people-oriented leadership? What leadership competencies and behaviour makes us effective leaders? Is there a new kind of leadership? The answers can be found at the eighth annual RSM Leadership Summit, which will take place in the Van Nelle Fabriek on Friday 7 October 2016 with speakers including Stefano Rosso (CEO OTB) and Dutch cabaret performer Freek de Jonge. The event’s early bird discount ends on Sunday 11 September.

Professionals, alumni and students connected to Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) will have exclusive access to the perspectives of successful business leaders and world-class academics during the event’s dynamic programme.

People as a success factor in business

In plenary talks and break-out sessions, the speakers will give their views on the factors that determine how communal goals can be achieved, how to get people on board, whether or not to lead the way, how much influence to let employees have – and how to deal with this ‘freedom’.

The event’s business speakers will be Stefano Rosso, CEO of OTB which is the parent company of fashion brands such as Diesel, Victor & Rolf and Maison Margiela; and Dutch cabaret performer Freek de Jonge. Their presentations will be followed by academic talks by Prof. Dirk van Dierendonck and Prof. Daan van Knippenberg.

From ego-system to eco-system
Break-out sessions will be led by some of RSM’s top academics, including Prof. Mathijs van Dijk, Dr Meir Shemla, Dr Inga Hoever, Prof. Taco Reus, and Dr Murat Tarakci. With a guest speaker and the audience, they will discuss various business cases, such as gender diversity in organisations, authentic leadership development, how finance contributes to society, and how an ego-system can be turned into and eco-system.

At the event, RSM will also announce the winners of the RSM Distinguished Alumni Awards in three categories: social impact, business achievements, and entrepreneurial spirit. The Summit is also the kick off for the MBA Alumni Reunion for classes that graduated 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years ago.
