Runners from the whole community of Erasmus University Rotterdam made up the biggest team of 560 in the Rotterdam marathon on 10 April. Students, staff, alumni, faculty and friends joined the Erasmus Charity Run 2016 organised by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) in the Netherlands’ biggest one-day sporting event of the year, the NN Marathon Rotterdam.

There were 33 marathon runners in the EUR team who trained to run the whole 26 miles (42 km), with the rest opting for the quarter marathon (10.5 km) distance. Their combined efforts raised €30,000 for the Erasmus Education Fund to provide highly motivated students from impoverished backgrounds the chance to study at EUR by means of a scholarship.

The team consisted of 423 students, 100 staff and faculty members, 22 alumni, plus 15 family members and friends, all with huge enthusiasm and generosity. Claudio Corti (MSc Business Information Management 2016) organised a crowdfunding campaign, and RSM alumnus Jeffrey Colin (MScBA’10) was named ‘Most Generous Runner’. Before the start, the EUR team were given the rallying cry by EUR alumnus Michiel Muller, a serial entrepreneur and investor and chairman of Erasmus Trustfonds.

Next year’s Rotterdam Marathon will be on 9 April, 2017. Updates will appear on www.eur.nl/erasmuscharityrun
