“People increasingly seek meaningful work, and speaking to this desire for meaning is of great importance to leaders' ability to inspire engagement and a sense of ownership,” says Prof. Daan van Knippenberg, who leads RSM’s Values-Based Leadership programme. “This ability to imbue a sense of meaning in the work lies at the core of values-based leadership.”
Building credibility through authenticity
Prof. Van Knippenberg says the programme provides tools to develop professionals’ leadership skills according to the principles of values-based leadership. “Participants will learn these principles and learn to translate them to their own leadership practice,” he said.
During the programme, participants will also learn how values-based leadership contributes to personal and organisational development, what motivates employees and the limitations of carrot-and-stick leadership, and how they can start to build credibility and legitimacy by being authentic.
Employee engagement
Values-based leadership can also reduce employees’ temptation to act unethically and decrease their resistance to change, which creates employee engagement and commitment to the organisation. A committed workforce delivering higher-quality work is more creative and innovative, and open to changes consistent with the organisation’s shared purpose.
This two-day programme by RSM Executive Education is taught in English and is designed to help managers better mobilise and inspire people. The programme is aimed at leaders and managers with a responsibility or desire to lead, motivate and inspire others. It draws on participants’ experience, so participants who are mid-level or senior level with at least five years’ experience in a management position will benefit most.
Combining research with practice
RSM Executive Education helps professionals and specialists to make a difference and boost their skills to benefit their career and their organisation. “We regularly review and improve the programmes we offer,” says Joanna Magala, director of open programmes at RSM. “Then we combine the latest research from our world-class faculty members and what we observe in the market, as well as feedback from our participants,” she said, adding that existing programmes are then upgraded and new programmes are developed, all designed to support business professionals as they progress in their careers.
The first run of the Values-Based Leadership programme is scheduled to start on Wednesday 6 July 2016.
