RSM alumna Alba Tiley’s career suggests that it is possible – and maybe even necessary – to do business and serve humanity simultaneously. MSc student Murvin Chan’s day job is national co-ordinator medical units for the Netherlands Red Cross; he sheds light on the pressures and challenges when private businesses and NGOs seek to partner up. Alumna Namita Krul combines a social conscience and a pragmatic business sense in her social enterprises WORK+SHELTER and New Yardsticks. And faculty members Prof. Rob van Tulder’s and Prof. Lucas Meijs’ share their perspectives on profit motives that create sustainable social benefits for social enterprises.
‘Human leadership’ stories
The magazine also carries an interview with Bayer CEO Marijn Dekkers, and the experiences of this year’s RSM Distinguished Alumni Award winners. This year’s RSM Leadership Summit shifted from addressing strategic issues facing business to the fascinating stories of three prominent business leaders: Marijn Dekkers of Bayer AG, Dorothee van Vredenburch of NN Group, and Merel van Vroonhoven of AFM. RSM Outlook describes their presentations about their personal ‘leadership survival kits’.
RSM Outlook’s photographer was at the RSM Alumni Weekend. Alumni there had the chance to reconnect with each other and explore future-facing issues.
Alumni in action
Other alumni stories cover why Cristof Marti left his high-flying career to set up a sailing school in Canada, and the entrepreneurial journeys of the RSM alumni who are behind ventures Novalogy, FoodWeLove and BitesWeLove. Read about alumni in action and how a customised RSM Executive Education programme is helping Deutsche Telekom’s international strategists to use new knowledge.
New scholarships
A new feature showcases how several alumni have offered scholarships through their companies or in other ways. “Giving back” is a major reason why alumni stay connected to RSM, and the magazine provides an update about how alumni are supporting the future of RSM.
In addition, RSM Outlook sums up highlights and news such as alumni events around the world, achievements, hot research, new partnerships, rankings, sustainability and new programmes – not to mention events to look forward to in 2016.
RSM Outlook
RSM Outlook has been printed twice a year since 2005 as it explores business issues, catches up with alumni, and strengthens the alumni network – which now numbers almost 30,000 around the world. Previous issues of RSM Outlook have covered topics such as ethics in business, the power of disruptive innovation, and a circular economy.
