Ter Weeme graduated with honours from RSM’s Global Executive OneMBA programme in 2011. “I’ve had the dream to run this marathon for years and now, at last, I will do it,” said the OneMBA alumnus, who is a global business groups deployment manager Digital@Scale at Philips. “What could be a better way to fulfil my dream than dedicating it to a good cause?”
Fulfilling dreams
CliniClowns, which is better known as clown doctors, is an organisation that sends professionally trained clowns to seriously ill children in hospitals to make their stay there more pleasant. The clowns help the little patients adapt to the new environment and direct their attention away from fearsome and tedious treatments and procedures.
“Being a father of three sons at the age of 9, 7 and 5, I have witnessed how vulnerable children can be,” said Ter Weeme, which is why he chose to support this cause. “I have experienced how a CliniClown reduced the stress levels of one of my sons tremendously, both before and after surgery, resulting in a less scary and negative hospital experience for him.”
Ter Weeme can be supported through his CliniClowns sponsor page.
RSM alumnus Robbert Brouwer (BSc in International Business Administration, 2014), who is the former chairman of study association STAR, also plans to run the marathon for charity. He is raising funds for KiKA, a charity fund fighting cancer in children.
