A joint research centre was among topics discussed when Professor Steef van de Velde, Dean, and Dr Ying Zhang, Associate Dean for China Business and Relations, from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) met with Mr. Cao Guoyong, Chairman of the University Council at Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) on April 23rd, 2015. They were joined in the meeting by principals from BJTU’s School of Economics and Management and Weihai Campus.
Mr. Cao Guoyong pointed out the progress and achievements towards mutual co-operation since the BJTU delegation visited RSM a year ago, and said he hoped the foundation of their joint double degree master programmes would further strengthen research and collaboration in supply chain and logistics, as well as helping to establish the Sino-European Logistics International Joint Research Centre.
Steef van de Velde commented that he was impressed by the rapid development of BJTU’s Weihai campus. He pointed out that RSM attaches great importance to its co-operation with BJTU because of its status in China for the study and research of logistics, transportation and supply chain, particularly connected to railway and railway infrastructure. Chinese government investment indicates that these subjects are important pillars for further economic development.
Professor Van de Velde said an important focal point of the collaboration between RSM and BJTU will be the ‘one belt, one road’ framework for organising multinational economic development, primarily in Eurasia, overland and by sea. The initiative was announced by president Xi Jinping in the fall of 2013. BJTU is the top university in China to lead the supply chain industry in applying this national policy.
Professor Van de Velde also said he hoped his visit would further the development of solid foundations for the establishing of a joint research centre.
