Professionals from a wide range of background started their Executive MBA programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) in February 2015. The two-day introduction for the Class of 2016 took place on campus to kick off this dynamic and international experience that will boost their careers.

The 113 participants of RSM’s Executive MBA Class of 2016 represent 32 nationalities, have an average age of 34, and an average of nine years’ work experience. Forty six per cent of the students are international. The EMBA students have a wide range of educational backgrounds such as engineering, humanities, law, business, economics, art, science and medicine.

After meeting each other, the EMBA students participated in a workshop about learning styles, led by MBA programme director Milton Sousa, followed by a leadership development drum session and networking drinks on the RSM campus on Saturday 31 January 2015.

The second day of the introduction programme took place at the Erasmus Paviljoen on campus on Monday 2 February. Dean Steef van de Velde welcomed the professionals to RSM, followed by several introductions including sustainability initiatives at Sustainable RSM, RSM’s Career Development Centre, and RSM’s strong alumni network.

Career development

“I really look forward to learning many hard skills like accounting, financing, and economics, said EMBA student Li Zhong, who is a business development executive at Houthoff Buruma. She added that she is excited about learning from her peers about their managerial skills and experiences. “It was also quite interesting to see how my peers and I interacted with lecturers after 10 years away from school.”

Zhong said the women leadership programme gave her more confidence. “I see in our team work that women work close together rather than competing. “I expect a very busy but fruitful time here at RSM,” she said. “I also expect to have a clearer goal and prepare well for my next professional career development.”
