A new double master degree programme spanning MBA studies in China and MSc business studies in the Netherlands is planned for next year, following a new agreement between Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-sen University, China.

The agreement is the next step in the already close co-operation between RSM and Lingnan (University) College. The two schools previously worked together to host a master programme combining Chinese economy and business studies, and they have been successfully exchanging students for several years. Other plans could include joint hosting of a double bachelor degree.

Chinese students will gain the advantage of international experience resulting from their two years of study. Possession of two degrees – one from a prestigious foreign university – would be a huge unique selling point (USP) to distinguish successful candidates from fierce competition from the millions of other Chinese students in higher education.

The two business schools have confirmed they will develop a double degree master programme for talented students from Lingnan (University) College, with the first arriving at RSM in September 2015. For the first year of studies Lingnan students will follow the MBA programme in China at Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-Sen University, followed by a second year at RSM in the Netherlands to study one of RSM’s one-year, pre-experience Master of Science degree programmes. The initial five-year agreement was signed by Prof. Xinzhong Xu, Dean of Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-Sen University and by Prof. Steef van de Velde, Dean of RSM.

On completion, students will be awarded an MBA degree from Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-Sen University and an MSc degree from RSM. Dean Van de Velde said: “This will be a great asset for them. These young graduates will have the benefits of possessing working experience completed with an MBA from Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-Sen University, also in addition to the academic insight gained during the MSc programme at RSM.”

Between 10 and 15 students will be pre-selected to apply to the double degree programme, and are expected to start in September 2015. They will be given assistance to make their stay in the Netherlands an enjoyable one.

Applicants will be expected to match the usual entry requirements for the RSM MSc programme; normally this will be covered by their bachelor studies or in the MBA section of their double master degree programme. They will also need to be proficient in English and have a GMAT score of at least 600.
