A weekend full of nostalgia, learning opportunities and new connections for alumni celebrating their graduation anniversaries from MBA programmes at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) in early October 2024. The programme, attended by more than 250 MBA graduates, included masterclasses, networking activities, alumni plenary sessions, a boat trip, and much more.

The MBA Alumni Reunion 2024 was for cohorts from graduation years ending in ‘4 and ‘9 from 1989 to 2019 were invited. Day 1 took place on campus, concluding with a boat trip. Day 2 was in the Beurs-World Trade Center.

Alumna Beatriz Muñiz Piniella (Executive MBA 2019) says RSM’s diversity taught her the value of different perspectives and teamwork, and brought lifelong friendships. “It’s inspiring to see how everyone has evolved. The reunion wasn’t just a nostalgic trip down memory lane, but also a chance to network with other cohorts and attend some inspiring workshops,” said Muñiz Piniella, who is ESRS implementation lead at KLM.

Alumni take the stage

The weekend included masterclasses by Professor Barbara Banda, Maria Carmen Punzi and Bill Collins, about leading change and inclusivity. There were also campus tours, networking activities, class dinners, city cycling tours, and a ‘floating reception’ on a boat on the Maas river.

There were also alumni plenary sessions about leading with impact, featuring alumni Frans Tjallingii (OneMBA 2004) and Katelijne Bekers (Executive MBA 2019).

In addition to his work as CEO of 7Gen, Tjallingii is changing how we solve homelessness as co-founder of Foundations for Social Change, a charitable organisation in Vancouver, Canada that develops evidence-based solutions to advance social change. As CEO of MicroHarvest, alumna Bekers’ ambition is to produce nutritious, sustainable proteins, to achieve resilient food systems.

Lively discussions

A panel sparked a lively discussion about ‘creating lasting impact’ by alumna Pui Yi Chan (MBA 2023), corporate sustainability manager at ORTEC; Eva Rood, director of RSM Positive Change; Professor Michel Lander, RSM Dean of Education; Meta Haag-Mikec, associate director of RSM Corporate & Alumni Relations; and Professor Erik Roelofsen, academic director of RSM’s Executive MBA.

Quincy Buenaflor (MBA 2004) travelled all the way from Manila to visit the reunion. “This event offered so many opportunities for us to bond and have fun. I am now left with melancholy and nostalgia of what transpired 20 years ago. I can’t wait for the next reunion for our group in five years!” said Buenaflor, who is executive director at Diamond Rent-a-Car in the Philippines.
