The RSM researchers started work on four Erasmus+ projects two years ago and concluded them recently. The Evi-Dems project: Enhancing volunteer impact - developing European management standards was funded by the European Union.

Raising European standards

Geers: “The educational offering for volunteer managers, both formal and informal, appears to be severely lacking across Europe. Better access to education for volunteer managers in Europe is essential to raise standards so the challenges of today and tomorrow can be addressed.”

Creating this material was a collaborative effort between consortium partners of the Erasmus+ Project Evi-Dems, comprising RSM, the Centre for European Volunteering, the Croatian Volunteer Development Centre, the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, the Vytautas Magnus University of Lithuania, Out of The Box Europe, and societal partners including volunteer management trainers, volunteer involving organisations and other universities.

Evi-Dems project

Evi-Dems aims to enhance the impact of volunteers by increasing opportunities across Europe for existing and future volunteer managers to be educated at higher education level based on common European standards for volunteer management training. EVI-DEMS also wants to boost the capacity of communities in general as concerns disaster prevention, preparedness and recovery through having better trained and qualified volunteer managers. Another goal is to increase the diversity and inclusivity in the volunteering sector with better trained and qualified volunteer managers able to assess the inclusiveness of the organisations where they are active and develop, manage and follow up on proactive plans and strategies to mitigate risks of lack of inclusivity.
