Most of the volunteers come from Germany and the Netherlands. Two of the founders and three of the volunteers have studied at Erasmus University or the Rotterdam School of Management "International Business Administration". This is also the reason why UnTrapped is headquartered in Rotterdam. However, since it is a virtual NGO, the cooperation runs via PC and it is usually not necessary to go to the location in Rotterdam. Many of the volunteers also come from the private, German network of two of the founders, such as the Freundeskreise, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, and also from the University. After the founders had created a first pool of volunteers, much came from word-of-mouth.
