The goal of a Denial-of-service attack, in short: a DoS, is disabling a service such as an application, website or online store. A successful DoS attack to the network, system or application overloads (web) applications, making them unaccessible during the attack to legitimate visitors. Such an attack can cause enormous disruption to your customers and significant revenue losses. In addition, a DoS attack can further be used to distract the IT department during the assault, and in the meantime commit a digital intrusion through the back door, according to RSM MBA alumnus Wiebe Nauta.
