Analysis of PhD candidate Clint Pennings shows that forecasters are not a homogeneous group, as current models often suggest. Their behavior cannot be fully explained by looking at the department in which they work. Each predictor appears to be a chaser (hunter) or a "smoother" (smooth string), as Pennings discovered.
