Netherlands does well when it comes to basic conditions such as infrastructure, education and health care. However, we dropped from the fifth to the eighth place on the list of the most competitive economies in the world. This is because of reduced investments in R&D, insufficient cooperation with the business world and knowledge institutions and lack of high-quality knowledge workers. (page 15)
