The chemical industry traditionally applies an economies-of-scale model. The Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISTP) project analyzed the use of a economy-of-chain model. The project is a collaboration between RSM, TU Delft, BearningPoint and other parties. They conclude that flexible co-operation in the distribution network is the future.
