The Lisbon Agenda, developed nine years ago, has as its aim to make the EU "the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion, and respect for the environment by 2010." Henk Volberda is quoted in this article, remarking on what he believes is one of the shortcomings of the Lisbon strategy, which is too much emphasis on innovation via new technology, and not enough via social innovation.
