Results from a recent study conducted by Movisie and the Nederlands Dagblad have revealed that the Netherlands has experienced a significant increase in volunteer activity, particularly now during the financial crisis. Lucas Meijs is quoted on volunteers' intentions for engaging in volunteer activity and states, "People do volunteer work to demonstrate their values and conviction that [volunteer work] comes with being a member of society. Personal motivations are more important than circumstances, and therefore also more important that than the credit crisis.''
