The article discusses the Netherlands' performance on the recently published World Competitiveness Study (World Economic Forum). Despite high marks in technology and increased efficiency and flexibility in the labour market than in previous years, the Dutch economy scored poorly in innovation. Frans van den Bosch and Henk Volberda places responsibility for this lack of innovation on the lack of sufficiently qualified (i.e. educated) employees, weakening overall innovation possibilities and knowledge absorption.
