Intercontinental container transport is a complex operation, writes Albert Veenstra, involving many parties and large amounts of detailed information that intersect at crucial moments. He details the project called "Integrity," launched in 2008 and funded by the European Commission through the 7th Framework Programme for Research & Development, which sought to significantly improve the reliability and predictability of global door-to-door container chains, by implementing new procedures and software tools.
