There is more pressure on business schools to be active citizens and demonstrate the societal impact of their work. These pressures for a greater systematic focus on societal impact are now going mainstream. Wilfred Mijnhardt at the Rotterdam School of Management used machine learning to scan reports, explored data deeply, and scrutinized schools' contributions, which changed the REF system rankings. This REF system is based on university departments demonstrating what they are doing to generate impact.
