PME, the first large pension fund in the Netherlands for workers in the metals and technology, stops investing in fossil fuels. PME says that stopping with investing in 'fossil' will not come at the expense of the return of investment. However, according to Matthijs van Dijk, professor of finance at RSM, it is uncertain if stopping with the investments in “fossil” does not affect its return of investments. In the short term, it is not expected that the fossil industry will run into problems, but Dr. van Dijk thinks that in the long term the fossil fuel industry will be affected if investments decrease. Companies then must go green to attract money again.
