This article is about the principle of  Self Sovereign Identity (SSI). SSI gives people themselves control over their own data instead of the government.

One way to realize this in the digital world is through blockchain, working together with the Dutch Blockchain Coalition. If this succeeds, the Netherlands might be one of the first countries with SSI on a large scale of reliability. Unfortunately this is not the case yet.

Currently the main focus is on testing the reliability, which happens on big scale on European level. The RvIG asked the TU Delft, University of Amsterdam and the RSM to take a critical look to the process, and work together with the to find out if this concept is ethical, is socially economic and technically sustainable.
