The Netherlands no longer belongs to the five most competitive economies in the world, as it now has to settle for a sixth place. This is evident from the global competition index of the World Economic Forum (WEF). In the field of innovation, the Netherlands is lagging behind. Henk Volberda of RSM stated that "other countries perform better, we are falling behind in the field of ICT application and the innovative capacity of companies and knowledge institutions."
