RSM's Cees van Riel has conducted a large-scale study of the reputation of the 18 most famous art museums worldwide. Among European respondents, the Van Gogh Museum is ranked first in the reputation ranking, before the Louvre. Worldwide, the Van Gogh Museum takes second place. The Rijksmuseum is in third place.
