Where can I find an overview of the scholarships RSM offers?

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Rotterdam School of Management offers a limited number of scholarships - mostly partial tuition fee waivers - for excellent applicants from non-EEA countries and EEA countries.

Please consult the Tuition and Scholarships page for an overview of the financial aid possibilities we have to offer.

In order to apply for an institutional scholarship, please follow the steps below:

1. Register in Studielink for the BSc IBA programme from 1 October 2021;

2. Continue your application in our Online Application Form (OLAF), after you've received the link per email (within

24 hours. In OLAF, you will be asked to indicate whether you wish to apply for a scholarship or not. If so, you will be requested to upload the following supporting documents:

- A scholarship motivation letter

- A budget plan for year 1, 2 and 3 of the programme

3. Submit your completed OLAF application before 1 February 2022;

4. Wait for the scholarship decision. The scholarship committee will determine award recipient(s) on 15 April 2022 (15 May for the Entrepreneurial Spirit Scholarship);

4. Accept your scholarship offer within 2 weeks;

5. Start your Visa application before 1 June 2022

What are the scholarship selection criteria I need to meet?

In general, we select the scholarship recipients based on merits (like GPA) and financial need.

Academic excellence in previous education is proven if the grade point average achieved at secondary school (measured to date) is at least equivalent to the Dutch grade of 8.0 on the Dutch grading scale 1 – 10.

Besides, you have to be aware that you will have to agree on a few general criteria before you applying for a scholarship:

Only students who are not recipients of any other scholarships exceeding the amount of € 5,000 in total in that same academic year can apply for the scholarship;
By accepting this scholarship you agree to assist the RSM Recruitment and Admissions Office in the role of an Ambassador with promotional and support activities for approximately 8 hours per month during the academic year;
By accepting this scholarship you agree to start your visa procedure before 1 June 2022. RSM holds the right to cancel your scholarship if you have not started your visa procedure and holds the right to offer the scholarship to a student on the scholarship waiting list.

Why is a registration in Studielink required?

Each applicant must first register for their preferred programme in the Dutch national student registration system - Studielink. This is not your actual application! After registering for a study programme in Studielink, you must fill in the RSM Online Application Form (OLAF).

A registration in Studielink connects you to the Erasmus University and activates your student account (ERNA) at the Erasmus University
After you have been admitted to RSM, you can monitor the status of your enrolment in Studielink and also arrange things such as your tuition fee payment in this system.

When should I submit my application for IBA (in OLAF)?

The admissions season for the BSc International Business Administration programme started on the 1st of October. You will be awarded points for:

the grades from your penultimate year (the year before your final year)
AND the grades you have obtained during the first half of your final year.

BE AWARE:

Based on the number of applications we received in recent years, we are expecting to receive over 2000 applications and most of them will be submitted close to the deadline. The final ranking must be published to our applicants on the 15th of April. This only gives the admissions office around 8 weeks to evaluate the applicants and finish the ranking!

You can ensure a successful application by following the instructions on our website and OLAF carefully. Really take some time to read all the information and consult your parents or your mentors at your school if needed.

Already graduated from High School?

We advise you to submit your application as soon as possible, because you already have all the grades needed for the evaluation.

Any current student at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, is entitled to apply for a grant.

What format will applications take?

Applications must be submitted in the format of a video, and by filling in the application package (download here, or via the button on the right of this page).

Videos should be maximum 2 minutes long.

What kinds of things can I use the grant for?

Your project must be aimed to make a positive change, be not-for-profit or a social entreprise, and help you gain real-world business/management/leadership experience. Examples of the kinds of costs you may need funding for could include: web/digital/software, training, physical materials/equipment, travel.

What if I have to cancel my project because of COVID-19 restrictions?

Your proposal has to comply to the current COVID-19 restrictions, you cannot apply to the Hummingbird Fund for a project that depends on a pre-COVID-19 lifestyle, i.e. large gatherings of people.

Yes – so long as everyone in the group is currently enrolled on a programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Will I have to report back on how I spent the grant?

Yes, Successful applicants must produce a max. two-page report on the outcomes of their project, and justify their spendings, within 6 and 12 months after receiving the grant. Extracts from the reports may be featured in Alumni Relations communications.

What happens if I don’t spend all my grant money?

Be judicious about how much money you realistically need for your project. Any remainder that cannot be spent will be subsumed back into the Hummingbird Fund.

What happens if I need more money?

Be judicious about how much money you realistically need for your project. Grantees cannot reapply for additional funds in the same grant year. If you are on a multi-year programme, you may re-apply to the Hummingbird Fund for academic year 2025/2026 to scale-up your project.

If you have started the application process in Studielink but did not receive your ERNA login details, please contact the Erasmus University IT Servicedesk: servicedesk@eur.nl.

In your message, explain the problem clearly, include your name, student number, email address and that you are applying for a programme offered by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Does RSM offer an Foundation Year programme?

Currently, RSM does not offer a Foundation Year or a prepatory year. RSM does not accept other foundation years if applicants are not eligible for admission with their secondary school diploma.

I have a functional disability (for example Dyslexia). Can this be taken into consideration when looking at the scores of my English test?

If you have a documented functional disability (such as Dyslexia, ADHD etc.), we advise you to do the following:

When planning your English test, try to see if you can arrange to have extra time to take the test. For example if you take a language test at the Erasmus Language & Training Center, extra time can usually be granted. It may be more difficult to arrange this when taking a standardized test (IELTS, Cambridge or TOEFL).

If after taking the test your scores are insufficient, contact the RSM admissions office for further advise. If you already started your application, you can add your current scores, along with documentation about your disability (such as a dyslexia statement) to your application.

Can I apply after the 15 January deadline?

You can register for IBA in Studielink between 1 October and 15 January. It is not possible to register after the deadline of 15 January. Late registration is not possible under any circumstances. The Dutch government has determined this deadline and exceptions are not possible. The second deadline for IBA is 31 January. This is the deadline to submit your application in RSM's online application form OLAF. We strongly advise you to apply on time to avoid issues.
