Once the required literature has been determined, orders for textbooks and readers can be placed via the StudyStore to ensure that students receive their materials on time before the start of the course.

For cases you may use The Case Centre platform. It holds the world’s largest and most diverse collection of management cases, articles, book chapters and teaching materials, including the collections of leading business schools across the globe.

If you have any questions about the copyright issues, the EUR Copyright Information Point provides a lot of useful information to teaching staff members and researchers.

Compulsory contributions not allowed

Recently there have been some issues and complaints about asking students for a financial contribution for teaching materials and/or examination materials. Compulsory contributions are however, not allowed, as the Ministry has clarified in a recent letter. Students should be able to complete the degree programme without being forced into financial contributions beyond the prevalent tuition fee.

In this document it is explained what you can and cannot do. Please read it carefully and review any instances where you ask for a financial contribution. If there are any questions, please inform programme management.

The Blackboard pages for the upcoming academic year are available at the end of August. Course coordinators are asked to update their Blackboard pages at their earliest convenience. Students are granted access to Blackboard pages through subscription to the courses via Osiris.

If you or one of your colleagues is unable to access your particular Blackboard course, please contact the programme manager of your course.

A basic Blackboard manual outlines how to create, reuse and share content with your students, post notifications and organize discussions.

Please note: As a rule, grades should not be published via Blackboard. Grade files can be sent to Programme Management, who will ensure that students receive their partial and overall grades via SIN-Online.

The Examination Board has developed a policy on bonus credits, detailed description available on their Intranet site.

Please be aware that overall grades cannot exceed 10.0, even after application of a bonus point (in other words, if a student has an overall grade of 9.5 before bonus and earns a bonus of 1.0, the final grade cannot be higher than 10.0).

If you need to reschedule or cancel a lecture, please contact the programme manager responsible for your course. The Programme Manager will make the necessary updates in the students’ schedule.

Please also try to refrain from making changes to the course and/or exam schedule for your course once that schedule has been created and published, as changes can be quite disruptive for students.

All teaching staff members are expected to be aware of and operate in accordance of the procedures and policies as established by the RSM Examination Board. The Examination Manual includes detailed descriptions of the regulations, such as the minimum grade requirement, bonus points, rounding of grade, validity of partial grades, perusal etc.

If your exam consists of multiple choice questions, you may set an appointment with Risbo to have the answer forms corrected. The contact details of Risbo are available on the Resources page.

According to the RSM Examination Manual 2015-2016, the examiner determines the result of a written examination as soon as possible, and no later than four weeks after the day on which it was taken. After an oral examination has been taken, the examiner determines the result immediately, and gives the student a written explanation.

  • Examiners cannot publish grades themselves, neither on Blackboard or on doors and cabinets, nor by email;
  • The publication of the preliminary (partial) grades is done by the Programme Managers on SIN-Online where the student receives his grade by SMS and by email;
  • Official final grades should be submitted at the Exam Administration as soon as possible after the perusal. This should be done in hardcopy with the examiner’s signature as well as by email to e.rsm@oos.eur.nl/room EB-34. Lecturers should use the Excel grade list provided by this department and sent to the lecturer before the date of the exam;
  • In case a student did not show up during the exam, the examiner should mention "NO" instead of a grade. "NO" is the abbreviation of niet opgekomen/no show. Other abbreviations used at RSM are: "FR" for students who are suspected of fraud, "O" (abbreviation of onvoldoende/insufficient) for students who did not meet the minimum grade requirement and therefore could not get a final grade.
  • Examinations are assessed with grades on the scale 0.0 – 10.0, accurate to one decimal place, where a 5.5 is the lowest pass grade. Practical tests may be assessed with a ‘pass' or ‘fail'. If examination grades have to be rounded off and averaged-within a course, or between examination parts or to determine the GPA or the classification- the following rules apply:
    - unless otherwise stated in the relevant course manual, examination grades are averaged according to the weighted average of the credits, where the average is rounded to one decimal place, which are rounded, so 5.45 is rounded to 5.5, a 6.95 a 7.0 a 5.44 a 5.4, etc.;
    - if examination parts are assessed on the basis of more than one examination, - then the rule applies that the examination parts are always rounded off to one decimal before subsequent calculations are made.

Partial grades from previous years

A coordinator should typically include information in the course manual text for students retaking the course which specifically mentions whether partial grades (for example assignments or mid-term examinations) from the previous year can be carried over to the current academic year.  In some instances students may be granted permission from the Examination Board to carry over grades (which would otherwise not be allowed).  In this case, the Examination Board will inform the course coordinator per email about such a decision.

Our policy regarding spam from students (via emails, mailings via the Blackboard mail tool, etc.) is outlined as follows:

What is considered spam?

• messages that could be seen as undesired by recipients

• messages with commercial purposes

• messages with shocking or otherwise inappropriate content

• messages that request help or participation in research or data collection, such as for a Bachelor or Master thesis.

What are the penalties for spamming fellow students?

• The minimum penalty for spamming students involves blocking of your ERNA account access for one week.

What alternative is there for students who need assistance and responses in the context of their thesis research?

In an effort to help students in their thesis research, we have established a dedicated SURVEY CHANNEL on SIN-Online. Students may subscribe to this channel and, in so doing, specifically indicate their own interest in receiving news and requests about participation in fellow students' research.

Teaching staff members who have suspicions that one of their students has committed plagiarism should inform the Examination Board via ec@rsm.nl. More information about this topic can be found on the RSM Examination Manual 2015-2016.

If a student has been suspected of doing some kind of fraudulent activity, or if a student is caught with his/her telephone either on, or not stowed away during an examination then this will be noted on the student's examination papers. There will be a large FR stamp on the exam when you receive it. The FR stamped exams are directly reported to the Examination Board by the department of Exam Administration (EA). The Examination Board reviews the various cases and also checks to see if students are repeat offenders.

Online evaluation questionnaires are sent out to students via the online evaluation system EvaSys. Programme management will send the course coordinator a draft of the questionnaire to be used for the online evaluations roughly 2 weeks before the end of the course. Programme management uses a standard set of questions per topic for these evaluations. At the course coordinator’s request, some additional questions can be added. The standard evaluation questions can be found via the Resources page.

CEMS-exclusive courses, rather, are evaluated via the CEMS online evaluation system. That system employs a standard template which cannot be adjusted.

If the course has no exam, the evaluation is sent to students after the last plenary lecture. If the course has a written exam, the evaluation is sent to students after the examination. The evaluation is open for two weeks.

The course coordinator will receive the evaluation results from Programme management by e-mail after the closing date of the evaluations.

Students who have registered for the course are automatically registered for the exam (first opportunity). If a student wants to take a re-sit (second opportunity), then he/she must register for it via Osiris-Student.

Each written exam should include a cover sheet, available on the Resources page. This cover sheet is determined in terms of layout by the Examination Board and the Examination Administration. More information about grade calculation and re-use of questions can be found on the RSM Intranet site of Examination Board.

The exam paper (including the cover sheet) must be submitted at the Exam Administration at least two weeks before the date of the examination. If you cannot submit the exam paper before the set deadline, then you must make all copies yourself. The deadline overview is available on the Resources page.

At least one teaching staff member is expected to be present (or at least easily accessible via phone) during the examination itself. The instructions of written examination are available on the Resources page.

According to the RSM Examination Manual 2015-2016:

As soon as possible but no later than four weeks after the written test, the examiner will give generic feedback. The examiner will provide information about the content of the written test and the correct answers/answer models in an explanatory session or via another approved medium. This offers students the opportunity to review the questions and assignments of the exam concerned, along with the answer models and criteria for assessment. The examiner sets the date, time and procedure of the feedback. The feedback must be realistically managed and the use of appropriate media (such as BlackBoard) is allowed.

As soon as possible – or at the same feedback session – but no later than four weeks after the feedback, students will have the opportunity to peruse their own assessed exam. The examiner may determine that the perusal is only for students who registered for it and/or who have attended the feedback meeting. The examiner sets the date, time, location and procedure of the perusal.

In the event that a student can demonstrate that he/she was prevented from being present at the assigned location and time for the feedback or the perusal due to force majeure, at the request of the student an alternative opportunity will be offered, if possible within the afore mentioned term.

The programme manager can book a room for a feedback session and perusal as well as organize a registration via SIN-Online.

Final grades should be submitted to the department of Examination Administration within four weeks after the examination. A special template of a grade list is sent to the course coordinator one day beforer the examination. If for some reason the coordinator does not receive this sheet, it is available upon request via e.rsm@oos.eur.nl.

All final grades must be submitted on paper (with the professor’s signature) to Examination Administration, Room EB-34, and by e-mail e.rsm@oos.eur.nl.

Once both the email and hard copy of the grades have been delivered to the EA they are typically processed within one week. Once the grades appear in Osiris they are considered finalized.
