Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) has been re-accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), demonstrating its commitment to high-quality learning standards and continuous improvement. This recent accreditation allows RSM to maintain its triple crown status – placing it in the top 3% of business schools worldwide to be accredited by the world’s leading accreditation associations.

International stamp of approval

Founded over a century ago, AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting organisation for business schools, and the largest business education network connecting students, educators and businesses from around the globe. Since 1916, AACSB accreditation has been synonymous with the highest standards in business education. In 1998, RSM became one of the first business schools to receive AACSB accreditation and has been benefiting from the support and advice of the peer review teams and from the global network of AACSB member institutions.

“Business today needs to serve both a public and a social purpose,” says RSM dean of education, Prof. Michel Lander. “AACSB accreditation helps us to activate these purposes at the higher education level. It’s our duty to develop leaders for the sustainable digital economy for the future, and to ensure that they can lead with a sense of purpose as agents for positive change. Our membership at AACSB ensures that we maintain the quality standards to do so.”

Triple crown status

AACSB evaluates a business school’s mission, research, educational programmes, faculty qualifications, engagement, innovation and impact. With this accreditation, RSM maintains its ‘triple crown’ status, an exclusive indicator of quality that highlights RSM’s international reputation. In addition to AACSB, the other two accrediting associations are the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and the Association of MBAs (AMBAs).

The school has made for more than twenty years a major faculty and resource commitment to a high-quality PhD program that counts with more than 100 fully funded doctoral students with a cohort of 15-20 per year, across five research areas. This is a major contribution to the scholarly field of management and to the research environment of RSM. In addition, the school developed since 2015 a very innovative part-time PhD program that, after a learning curve, now seems successful in both scholarly quality and economic viability. This strong contribution to doctoral education is a best practice for publicly funded European schools.” – AACSB Panel
