“I wanted to gain international experience. In Nairobi, there are local MBA programmes, but I saw the value of an international MBA to broaden my perspective, expose me to different markets, and expand my professional network. I was drawn to RSM’s mission to be a force for positive change, which resonated with my background in sustainable business, energy access, and agriculture. I wanted to build on that experience and use my strengths to address global challenges, particularly in Africa.”
“Both the curriculum and my classmates are equipping me for an evolving business landscape. The curriculum is up to date with recent developments and pushes my thinking, helping me approach challenges with fresh, strategic and critical perspectives. With rapid innovations and constant change, the MBA prepares me to navigate complex problems with a flexible and adaptive mindset, rather than relying on one-size-fits-all solutions.”
“It's been fantastic, particularly because of my classmates. The diversity of backgrounds, industries, and expertise within my cohort has been a huge learning experience. The structure of the MBA is highly interactive, with a lot of group work inside and outside the classroom, making it easy to learn from my peers. The international mix – from Latin America, Southeast Asia, North America and Europe – has enriched my understanding of different markets. The coursework is challenging, but I’m enjoying being back in the classroom and gaining new insights every day.”
“The weather! Coming from Kenya, where we have consistent temperatures year-round, adjusting to shorter days and longer nights has been a challenge. But sharing this experience with classmates from similar climates makes it easier. Culturally, I’ve worked in diverse teams before, but immersing myself in the European context has given me new perspectives and allowed me to meet incredible people.”
“The Purpose Impact & Transition Project (PIT Project) has been the most challenging. It started early in the programme and required us to take ownership of a sustainability transition issue we care about. It was daunting to commit to a project without fully understanding the local context, but it has shifted my mindset on personal agency in sustainability. Instead of being an advisor or consultant, I now see myself as an active driver of change. This has been a great learning experience.”
“We’ve only just started, but the team coaching aspect of PLD has been eye-opening. I’ve had individual coaching before, but experiencing it in a group setting has shown me that many challenges are shared. The programme encourages self-reflection, honesty and accountability, creating a great opportunity for personal and professional growth. It’s pushing me to develop in areas that might be holding me back.”
“I plan to continue working in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture – both crucial sectors linked to multiple SDGs. There are many opportunities at the intersection of climate and agriculture, especially in the Netherlands, where climate-smart agriculture is thriving. I hope to leverage my time here to learn from innovative businesses and apply those insights to Africa. I also want to transition from advisory roles to working more directly within companies, helping them implement sustainability strategies.”
“The alumni network has been an excellent resource. Through platforms like RSM MentorMe and in-person networking events, I’ve engaged with alumni who offer valuable insights. It’s still early days for me in the programme, but I plan to continue tapping into this network, especially to build connections in the Netherlands and learn from those working in sectors I’m interested in.”
“Even before starting the programme, we had access to many resources, including platforms like MBA Exchange, CareerOS, and RSM MentorMe. The career team integrates career development into the curriculum, pushing us out of our comfort zones and encouraging proactive networking. Their tailored advice on the Dutch job market and CV development has been so valuable, ensuring we make the most of our MBA experience.”
“An MBA is a significant investment – both in terms of time and finances. My advice is to do thorough research to ensure the programme aligns with your values and future goals. Look beyond rankings and focus on the curriculum, the school’s mission, and the network you’ll gain. If it aligns with your aspirations, go for it! Preparation is key to making the most of the experience.”
“Yes, it has broadened my perspective on the different career paths I could take. While I remain committed to working in agribusiness and sustainable energy, I’m now more open to different roles within these industries. Initially, I was focused on moving into venture capital and supporting climate tech start-ups, but now I’m also considering working within these companies to help them scale. The MBA has shown me there are multiple ways to achieve my long-term goals.”
“In the short term, I anticipate significant personal and professional growth from this MBA journey. Longer term, I see myself leveraging my international network to address critical challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly around food security and climate change. Collaboration will be key, and I hope to apply my learnings from RSM to drive meaningful impact in these sectors.”
