Two bachelor programmes. Two graduations. Countless smiles of pride and achievement. This sums up the ceremonies for the 1,146 graduates of the BSc Business Administration/Bedrijfskunde (BA) programme and the BSc International Business Administration (IBA) programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM).

The BA and IBA Classes of 2022 celebrated the completion of their three-year studies at the Nieuwe Luxor Theater in Rotterdam on 10 November (BA/Bedrijfskunde) and 11 November (IBA/International Business Administation). Both graduations were livestreamed for graduates, family and friends who couldn’t attend the ceremonies in Rotterdam in person.

Big societal challenges

Dean of Education Professor Michel Lander said to the graduates that business needs a fundamental transformation because society expects more in terms of sustainability, inclusivity, and thoughtful leadership. “Business today needs to serve a public and a social purpose. You are the best and brightest business leaders for the future. Make sure that you lead with a sense of purpose as agents of positive change.”

Prof. Lander urged the graduates to address big societal challenges. “Develop new business models that do well and do good at the same time, be a source of inspiration to others, challenge the status quo, and lead by example. You are the key to a sustainable world,” he said.

At the BSc BA graduation, the graduate speakers were Amy van der Well and Rathna Bhaisrosingh. The Class of 2022 was also addressed by Dr Jacomijn Klitsie, Associate Academic Director of BSc Programmes at RSM.

At the BSc IBA graduation, the graduate speakers were Gyula Szijjártó and Felix Bracht. From RSM, the speakers were RSM’s Dean Ansgar Richter and Dr Mirko Benischke.

Honours degrees

Many of the graduates completed their programme with honours, which were presented by Prof. Michel Lander. From the BSc Bedrijfskunde, 16 of them graduated cum laude. And in the BSc IBA, there were 91 cum laude graduates, and 6 graduated summa cum laude.

Sue Martin, RSM’s Director of Corporate and Alumni Relations, welcomed all graduates to RSM’s international alumni network. This community has more than 45,000 members who can stay connected to each other and to RSM through global eventslocal chapterscontinued education opportunities, Think.Do. magazine and many other ways.

About half of this year’s 1,146 bachelor graduates have enrolled in an MSc programme at RSM per September 2022. RSM graduates are in high demand in the international business world. The MSc Employment Report from last year’s master graduates shows that 94 per cent of them was employed within 6 months after graduation. More than half of the graduates landed a job even before graduation.
