More than 200 people joined the first Alumni Career Days at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) in June 2023. Spread over four days of online sessions and an on-campus day, the exclusive event supported alumni in various ways to discover how they can take their careers to the next level.

The online programme, which was joined by 156 participants, consisted of several elements. It facilitated career growth through personalised one-on-one career coaching sessions catering to the alumnus’ field and level of expertise. In addition, 20 inspiring alumni speakers facilitated masterclasses on the changing industry climates, soft skills that stand out in the workplace and the professionalism expected of them.

The on-campus day on Friday 16 June was all about exclusive masterclasses and networking opportunities with fellow alumni. These industry experts and experienced mentors provided tailored sessions and one-on-one advice to help the 50 attendees stay up-to-date and plan their own journey. The sessions focused on topics such as influencing and building a company culture, finding a purpose, sustainable entrepreneurship, and giving and receiving feedback at work.

One alumnus said: “The lunch made it easy to connect with other alumni. I enjoyed the lectures about culture and entrepreneurs. I also really enjoyed how naturally the conversation with the entrepreneurs and the audience was.”

Accessible career advice

“Whether alumni just graduated or are more experienced, we're sure there’s always something new they can discover about themselves or the career they’ve envisioned for themselves,” says Meta Haag-Mikec, associate director of Corporate and Alumni Relations at RSM. “We’re excited to make career advice more accessible to our alumni, and to foster networking and collaboration among alumni, faculty members, career services and executive education.”

Most of the alumni who attended graduated from RSM in the last five years. They took this opportunity to network, receive personal advice, and focus on a variety of career topics for young leaders and people with a more established career. In addition to inspiring sessions, the alumni enjoyed lunch at Maria’s Cantina, and networked with alumni working in various roles in a mix of industries.
