Part-time PhD students at the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) carry out rigorous, high-quality research on topics with real-world application over the course of 5-6 years.
Tuition fee: Contingent on year (€ 10,000 for years 1 and 2, € 7,000 for years 3 and 4, € 6,000 for subsequent years.
The programme is designed for experienced professionals eager to further develop their academic skills and knowledge next to their professional activities. The part-time PhD includes a programme of courses on research methods, skills, and processes, alongside supervision from world leading scholars in the fields of business, management, and economics.
Through research and education, you will acquire extensive knowledge and hone your analytical skills, enabling you to grow into an engaged researcher who effectively understands and addresses societal challenges. The Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) includes the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE), covering research across a number of areas of business, management, and economics.

The research areas of RSM and ESE partly overlap so please look at each carefully to find the best fit. You can also apply for multiple research areas, and there are opportunities for collaborative supervision across the schools.
For admission to the Part-Time PhD programme at ERIM, you must:
• Be a professional with at least five years of working experience relevant to management or business or economics.
• Have a BSc and MSc/MBA degree (only eligible when completed with written MSc/MBA thesis) in a relevant discipline.
• Have a strong interest in and capacity to conduct academic research, demonstrated through excellent study results and publications such as white papers or books.
• Have proof of proficiency in English. For example, a TOEFL or IELTS test, which should not be more than two years old.
• Commit to investing at least 20 hours per week on average, for up to 6 years.
• Commit to attending all mandatory on campus modules in person.
In addition to these formal requirements, candidates will be selected according to excellence. Your CV, motivation letter, and endorsement from your intended supervisors will be critical components in admission decisions.

1 page research proposal of the type of research questions and methodologies you intend to employ, either as a sketch or specific questions. State if data comes from your current employer or your research is related to your current profession. If interested in Economics at ESE, please coordinate it with your intended supervisors.
