The aim of this programme is to create a generation of specialised marketers who can bridge the gap between marketing and data science, and solve complex marketing challenges by using computational approaches and techniques, advanced analytics and data science. The programme uses a comprehensive and forward-looking approach to the use of data and AI for marketing using advanced methodologies, and students benefit from studying at a world-class university. All study is done entirely online from wherever students are in the world. This online programme is a positive example of cross-school collaboration between Erasmus School of Economics and RSM.
The first cohort will begin their online studies in September 2025 with a solid foundation in marketing, data and AI during the first year. In the second year they will study more in-depth and integrated content with a deep dive into the execution of marketing strategy. Studies are divided into segments to allow each student to learn in the way that suits them, whether that’s through shorter self-study sessions, or in longer or more intense periods. The programme has been designed so that the cohort of students develops a strong group dynamic, something that’s important for everyone to get the most out of the programme.
This is the second programme to be added to the portfolio of fully online master’s at RSM this year. RSM’s Online MSc in Sustainability Management was launched in February.
The skillset that’s reshaping the workforce
Academic director of the new programme is Dr Pieter Schoonees and Prof. Bas Donkers is Programme Coordinator.
The new programme meets and trending need for professionals with a combination of skills. Understanding data and AI is a most important skill in business and in marketing. There are many data scientists, and there are many marketeers, but there are not many professionals with both sets of skills and knowledge, and it’s this new demand for skilled professionals who can achieve marketing intelligence through data intelligence that is reshaping workforce dynamics.
AI and data science isn’t as new as people might think, but there is now a huge amount of data at marketers’ fingertips. The new programme equips professionals to translate data language into business language. This unique master’s programme combines marketing and data science and focuses on how to use the latest tools to get the most from data. Using online and hybrid learning, plus live sessions, students will work through their assignments and gain new insights from research. Students are expected to commit around 16 hours a week during lecture periods.
