If solar and wind energy begin to play a greater role in electricity generation, it may be more financially attractive to keep polluting power stations open. This will at least be the case if the energy market retains its present form. This paradoxical conclusion was reached by Professor Wolf Ketter and Derck Koolen in their recent study.
